Mission 2012

Mission 2012
Elect more women than ever in SC

Mission 2012In September, the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics launched Mission2012, an aggressive campaign to elect more women than ever in South Carolina, and need your help to make it happen. Part of the initiative is to identify hundreds of women leaders across the State and encourage them to run for elected office at every level. Once we know who they are, we will and train them in the best campaign training schools available.

The 2012 election cycle demands that women step up and lead. We now make up more than HALF the workforce in the US, we are becoming the breadwinners in our households.  Three women graduate from college for every two men (women also now earn 60% of master's degrees, about half of all law and medical degrees, and 42% of MBAs), women are starting more businesses than ever before, and the old masculine work model is fading fast.

All that and still women make up less than 10% of the policy-making bodies in our State. The time is now and we need your help to take advantage of the opportunity.

Here are a few of the ways you can help:

  1. Serve as an advocate that proactively seeks women who are already leading in your area. They may be at the PTO, a civic club, elected at a city or county level with higher aspirations, or just out there in the community. Tell us about them and become part of the team which assesses their skills and encourages their candidacy.
  2. Tell people you know about the Institute and particularly about the upcoming training schools this fall. Training is non-partisan, issue-neutral, within 50 miles of every woman in South Carolina - and great! Covering the five key areas of a political campaign - management, fundraising, internet/social media, message, and grassroots organizing - the one-day sessions are a practical way for candidates, prospective candidates, advancing candidates, campaign workers and political advocates of all kinds to get updated.
  3. Attend a training school, or send a member of your team.
  4. Like us on Facebook; connect with us on Twitter.
  5. Support the Institute financially.

2012 offers a unique, post-census opportunity to move SC women forward. Join us in the effort to make the most of it!
