Marilyn Hemingway

“We are the Leaders that We have been Waiting For” is the motto of Marilyn Hemingway, political activist and consultant and with over 30 years of political experience...she knows electoral and activist campaigns.

Marilyn was recently elected the first African-American female of the Oconee County Democratic Party, Oconee, South Carolina. She currently works on the Vic Rawl for US Senate campaign as Upstate Field Coordinator and Women's Outreach Director.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Marilyn's experience includes: Coordinator, Campaign for Change, Georgetown County; Political Director for John Edwards in 2008; Campaign Manager for Randy Maatta for Congress (1st Congressional District); the Lowcountry Regional Coordinator for the Victory 2004 campaign and numerous school board, county-wide and municipal races.

Marilyn also has strong marketing experience has Membership Director of the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce; Technical Writer/Instructor with BellSouth University; Marketing Director for Kaplan Educational Services, Arizona and Account Executive with ad agencies in the state of Arizona.

She has served on the boards of The Mitney Project, Georgetown, SC, the Georgetown County YMCA and other non-profit organizations.

A strong proponent of training, Marilyn has organized and attended Wellstone Action (3 times!), New Organizing Institute, 21st Century Democrats, Democracy for America and Campaign University.
