Each year, the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics hosts a dinner honoring women who have broken political barriers in South Carolina. Previous honorees have been Liz Patterson, former Congresswoman; Barbara Neilsen, former State Superintendent of Education; Sherry Shealy Martschink, youngest woman nationwide elected to state office (1972); Inez Tenenbaum, former State Superintendent of Education; Nikki Haley, first female governor of South Carolina; and Lucille Whipper, first woman of color elected to the South Carolina legislature from the tri-county Charleston area.
In 2012, we are proud to honor Vida Miller, former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and Deb Sofield, internationally known executive speech coach and Commissioner of Public Works of the City of Greenville (SC).
Keynote speaker: Honorable Christine Todd Whitman, Former Governor, State of New Jersey, and Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under George W. Bush.
