Here are Ms. Moffly's answers to some questions posed by the Institute.

Why you - why now for this position you're running for?

I am a child advocate and I have the best plan for making school relevant to real life for the next generation while saving money for the state and improving transparency and accountability.

What is your leadership style?

Delegation, teamwork and collaboration. The job of the State Superintendent of Education is to lead inter-agency collaboration to address and develop policies that are in the best interest of student achievement.

With so few women in elected office here in SC what do you foresee to be your greatest challenge once elected to public office?

The status quo and fear of change.

Has there been a woman who you've admired in the political world and what is it about her that gives you courage to run the race?

No one woman in particular, only the strength of women who wear the pants in the family and make the daily decisions in life.

How much money will you need to raise? If you were not running for office and had that amount of money where would you spend it?

Arthur Ravenel, Jr. says, I need $300,000 or not to bother. Otherwise, I would be saving for my children's higher education, among other things.

Has political office been a life long goal/dream of yours?

When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be President of the United States.

Tell us something your friends would be surprised to learn about you?

Running for State office, again.

South Carolina would be a better place if only...

Elizabeth Moffly were serving the State Superintendent of Education.

What keeps you awake at night?

My mind.

Your mother always said...

Do as I say not as I do.
