Donna Dewitt

Donna is currently serving her seventh term as President of the South Carolina AFL-CIO.  Elected in 1996, she was one of only three women in the history of the AFL-CIO to hold the title of a state president. She is one of five women currently serving in this position throughout the United States.

She retired after 30 years from BellSouth (now AT&T) in 1996 and served as a registered lobbyist for her union, Communications Workers of America, for ten years during this time. She has served on the National GED Advisory Committee, The Richmond Federal Reserve Community Development Advisory Committee, S.C. Workforce Investment Board, S.C. Workers Compensation Education Association and as Vice President for S.C. Family and Community Leaders. She currently serves on the boards of Citizens Against Sexual Assault, Community Mediation Center and is co-chair of the S.C. Progressive Network.

She is a lifetime resident of Orangeburg. She and her husband, Jimmy, have resided on their rural Orangeburg County farm for 40 years, where Donna taught Adult and Youth Sunday School for over 25 years. They have a son, Gus, a daughter, Susan and five grandchildren.
